"The European Commission, Indonesia, and Malaysia have agreed to set up a Joint Task Force to address the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This regulation aims to prevent products linked to deforestation, like palm oil, coffee, and cocoa, from entering the EU market. Both Indonesia and Malaysia, as major palm oil producers, raised concerns about the regulation’s trade implications and fairness. The task force will create a platform for transparent dialogue, tackle technical challenges, and discuss traceability requirements. Its first meeting is planned for the second half of 2023, involving governments, industry, and NGOs. The initiative reflects the EU’s commitment to sustainable supply chains while considering the perspectives of producing countries.
