On April 25, 2026, the Government of Canada published the final screening assessment for the Alkyl Halides Group under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP), along with a Risk Management Approach for 1-bromopropane (propane, 1-bromo-) for a 60-day public comment period. The related notice was issued in the Canada Gazette, Part I. The assessment covered four substances: bromoethane chloroethane 1-bromopropane and trans-1,2-dichloroethene Among these, 1-bromopropane was found to meet one or more of the criteria under section 64 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), indicating potential risks to human health and/or the environment. The other three substances were determined not to meet the section 64 criteria, and no further risk management actions are currently planned for them. The proposed risk management approach for 1-bromopropane outlines potential measures to address identified risks and invites stakeholder input during the consultation period. The assessment forms part of the third phase of the CMP, which evaluates chemical substances to determine their potential impacts and appropriate regulatory actions. Comment due date is June 24, 2026
