On 4 May 2026, European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published a harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) consultation under the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation for 2,4,6,8-tetramethyl-1,3,5,7-tetraoxacyclooctane (metaldehyde) (EC No. 203-600-2; CAS No. 108-62-3). The dossier was submitted by Poland, and stakeholders are invited to submit scientific comments and supporting information until 3 July 2026. According to ECHA, The hazard classes open for commenting include flammable solids, germ cell mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, hazardous to the aquatic environment, and hazardous effects on the ozone layer. The dossier submitter (Poland) proposes a revised Annex VI entry retaining Flammable Solid Category 2 (H228) and Acute Toxicity Category 3 (H301), while removing the reproductive toxicity (H361f) and aquatic chronic hazard (H412) classifications. The oral ATE of 283 mg/kg body weight remains unchanged under the proposal. The consultation forms part of ECHA’s CLH process to ensure harmonised hazard classification across EU Member States and remains open until 3 July 2026 for stakeholder input before evaluation by the Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC).
