Indonesia's food authority has introduced new requirements governing the use of collagen in processed foods. Under the updated provisions, collagen remains a permitted non-nutritional substance in processed foods, excluding Foods for Special Nutritional Uses (PKGK). To ensure consumer safety amid increasing collagen consumption, a maximum use level of 10 grams of collagen per serving or per package has been established. Products exceeding this limit must undergo a specific usage assessment by the Directorate of Processed Food Standardization.
The requirements apply to new and pending registration applications, while products already holding distribution permits must achieve compliance within 18 months through composition variation registration. Non-compliant products may face administrative sanctions, including revocation of distribution permits.
