On 29 April 2026, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced new processes and methods for the registration of pesticide products under the Food Safety and Security Act (FSSA).

Part 11 of the FSSA, which regulates the import of specified agri-food products, is expected to come into force in the second half of 2026. Once implemented, SFA will take over the regulation of pesticides used on edible plants intended for human consumption, including fruits and vegetables.

Under the new framework, pesticide products currently registered for use on edible plants under the Control of Plants Act will continue to remain valid under the FSSA and will not require re-registration.

The announcement also clarifies that pesticides intended for ornamental plants will no longer need to be registered under either the FSSA or the Control of Plants Act.

The changes are intended to streamline regulatory oversight while ensuring continued food safety controls for pesticides used in food production.
