On 14 May 2026, Taiwan Ministry of Environment announced the publication of the “Guidelines for the Use of Alternative Methods for Skin Allergies” and revisions to the existing “Guidelines for the Use of Alternative Methods for Skin Irritation” and “Guidelines for the Use of Alternative Methods for Eye Irritation.” The updated guidance was issued to support industry compliance with chemical substance registration requirements and promote the use of validated non-animal testing approaches. According to the ministry, the new skin allergy guideline was developed in consideration of the well-established toxicological mechanisms associated with skin sensitisation, the increasing availability of internationally validated alternative test methods, and growing regulatory acceptance of non-animal testing strategies. The ministry also reviewed the latest Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) test guidelines, classification criteria, and integrated testing strategies while revising the existing guidance documents for skin and eye irritation. The ministry stated that the guidelines are intended to assist registrants in preparing standard registration dossiers for chemical substances using alternative testing methods and provide practical reference for data preparation and report writing.
